What's in a Name?

You may have noticed that a lot of bloggers are changing their names.

Not literal name changes...

but they are swapping out their long standing blog names

for new ones.

Blogs like "Across the Pond," "Fabulous K," "Fairy Tales are True,"

have cut ties with their original identities

and have evolved into different names.

There are more people that come to mind,

but these are some of my blogging friends

that I've identified along with their sites for years.

(Tyler would know them as "Megan Across the Pond, "Fab K," and "Fairy Tales Sarah.")

The new names they have added align more

with who the blogger is now...

rather than one that reflects where her life five years ago

with a quippy tagline.

It makes sense that as your life changes from that starting point,

so your focus of your blog should, too.

We grow past those points, we change, our priorities shift.

Though we outgrow those moments,

we will also ADORE them for the fun we had during them,

how groomed we looked in the photos from them,

and the endless hours we had to devote to growing our blogs during them.

Maybe I've noticed it more than other people have

because it's something that I've considered doing for a while now.

'Aspiring Kennedy' is a name I love because my friend, Laura, picked it

and because it's become a part of my history here in this space.

But I cringe when I say it to someone who is unfamiliar with my blog.

In fact, I try to hide the existence of my online-self

from most people that I know "in real life"

because the name is so silly to me!

Here's the truth:

I'm not aspiring to be like a Kennedy.

I'm really happy with my life, writing my own story,

and ... the cheesy snobbiness of the phrase "Aspiring Kennedy" is slightly terrible to me.

So what to do... toss the name?

Start fresh?

Ask Tara Jones to pen out a new gorgeous calligraphy banner for me?

Well, I could... but I'm too sentimental to erase it.

Because while it may sound extremely shallow,

I think that most people who are plugged in here

see beyond the title...

it's not the brand or lifestyle I strive to have....

it's just a (silly) name.

So, yes.

Aspiring Kennedy it will be.

I feel like most of us have past online names that we flush when repeating.

Make me feel better...

What's a hilarious screen name, profile name, blog name that you once had?
