Notting Hill-Kinda-Weekend

I wrote the other week about weekend traditions- and how we fail so miserably at having any. The only one we can ever muster up, going to the Portobello Road Market, can only be credited as the result of convenience.

I treasure these days roaming the neighborhood with with Tyler & Viola. We always end up staying out for hours longer than we plan, spend hardly any money, and somehow always run out of memory on our phones from taking pictures along the way. We also somehow always end up meeting up with friends along the way for lunch at the pub or afternoon treats in one of the neighborhood's endless offering of bakeries. It's fun to bounce back and forth between tourist chaos and quiet neighborhood rhythms.

Each Saturday that we do this, it reminds me what a gift it is to live in a place that we enjoy. I know there are a lot of great reasons to live in random places, but there is something big to be said for getting to daily feed off the energy of a place that you love. For me, I'm not sure there is a place better than Notting Hill.

Obviously, not everyone feels the same way about every place. As much as I want all of my friends, students and family to feel the same about London that we do, I know it's not a reality. So you tell me: What place does your heart feel best?
